congrats Will B.

I just wanted to send out a warm congratulations to Will B. He will be working at another CrossFit affiliate called CrossFit CSA in Dublin. (Note: Their website isn't up yet. I'll link it as soon as Will B. gives the site info!) CrossFit CSA just opened today for business. I know it's been a long road for Will, but I'm really happy for him and I know he's going to do great. Sadly, I don't get to see Will B. much and I'll see him even less. It's okay. I'm really happy for him and I wish him the best of luck! Also, I'm looking forward to a complimentary session or two at the new box. ha ha! Finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to his little girl Gabby. Awesome!

In other news, I was so sad to hear that Patrick Swayze died today. This has been a crazy year of deaths and I'm sad to see another fallen star. I have fond memories of Swayze and his films. Laugh all you want, but admittedly, this song is on regular rotation on my ipod...

Who didn't love him in To Wong Foo, Thanks for everything! Love Julie Newmar?!

Warm-up
Run 400 meters
Row 500 meters
Prep for WOD

CrossFit One World WOD: Jackie
Complete the following for time:
1000m row
50 thrusters 35#
30 (Jumping) pull-ups

Joanne's Final Time - 11:52

Notes (to myself) about this workout: This wasn't as hellish as I thought it would be. Perhaps it's because I don't do the all out pull-ups. I still suck at them. Bleh. After the WOD I did some hanging from the bars. I did six rounds, the first three I did not time. The last three I clocked in 21 seconds; 31 seconds; 29 seconds. My grip strength is much better than before. Yea.

I didn't know Patrick Swayze sang that song! Wow. The 80s were a good time for actors to put out songs. But yes I did enjoy Patrick Swayze's movies (admittedly probably "To Wong Foo" the most).

I still can't figure out how they got the manliest men of the time to do that movie! When Wesley Snipes kicks his legs...OMG.

Hey, J-Ro. I don't always post but I visit your site regularly. I love what you have to say. Lots of times you are voicing what I feel about a WOD. I love your food takes. We tried Semo Sushi as described in your earlier posts and just fell in love with the place. Now I need to know what your broccoli beef receipt is... give it up, girl!!

Diana - Yup. That song was all Swayze. In fact, I think I'm going to have to listen to this song called "Dirty Dancing" by NKOTB. (Shush. Judge all you want!) It's a nod to Johnny and Baby (nobody puts Baby in a corner!). ha ha!

Yes. To Wong Foo totally rocks my world. If you look closely, Michael Vartan is in that film (er. um. I guess it helps to know who Michael Vartan is).

Hey Mary! Great to see you here. I'm glad you love Semo Sushi. Their food rocks. Here's the recipe you asked for: http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/broccoli_beef/. This is how I modified:
- I use way more garlic. The recipe calls for two cloves. Whatever. Pile it on, sister! I use more along the lines of half to a full head of garlic depending on how much I'm making.
- I use beef broth instead of chicken broth.
- Unless I really need to thicken the sauce, I cut out the corn starch (especially in the marinade).

Hope you like the recipe!
